How To Transform Your Business For The New World Using Talent And Technology

Our new reality has accelerated digital technology and prompted the need for a new kind of business transformation — one that will be relevant for the new normal of tomorrow. But there’s one thing that hasn’t changed: reinventing your business. And the technology that powers it still requires you to assess and address the how, the who and the what of your organization. Transforming The How: Keep Doing What You’re Doing — Just Do It Differently The easiest part of this equation is transforming how you do what you already do. That’s the low-hanging fruit. You have an existing set of things you develop and sell. The question is about how you deliver those products in a remote way in a world with a higher degree of remoteness. • How can people who are involved with that product work remotely in an effective way? • How can they do remote design and iteration? • How can they remotely provision, deploy, monitor and maintain the solution? Technology creates some level of advantage in helping you with this transformation. Stop Being Handcuffed By Technology

Back in April, Scott Brinker released the 2020 Marketing Technology Supergraphic. What strikes me about this update, aside from being floored by the staggering number of providers and how the category has grown exponentially since 2011, is the growth of both the “data” (+25.5%) and “management” (+15.2%) categories. I’m not surprised by the figures, but it legitimizes the issue facing most marketers today: the overwhelming amount of data and the inability to manage it. Data is not going away, nor is the requirement that companies and marketers, in particular, get smarter and smarter about how to use it. What we can change is how we manage everything. So often, we build complex systems to manage what we cannot manage ourselves. In the martech space, we almost celebrate the fact that there needs to be a system to manage the systems: the holy “martech stack” and the emergence of the Marketing Ops role itself. Five Lessons Learned: Growing A Global Technology Brand Amid A Pandemic

Though we are still very much in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, I’ve had a chance to reflect on the past few months and have realized five lessons ranging from what I would have done differently to organizational changes I plan to implement moving forward. Agility is the new plan. I wish I could look back and say we were prepared, but like most people reading this, a pandemic was the furthest thing from my mind or the minds of my team members. Needless to say, we did not have a crisis plan in place, and at first, we felt absolutely confused as a team. But what happened after proved that some situations can’t be planned in advance and that all you need to do is adapt quickly and make smart decisions without delay. In business, it’s common to evaluate economical situations or risks right in front of us, such as a strong competitor. However, nobody expected a pandemic to take place, and many businesses, unfortunately, didn’t overcome this global crisis. At the same time, numerous other companies managed to swiftly digitalize their businesses and win the situation. 2020 has proved that in turbulent times, planning is a life jacket, but only maneuverability can save your life. Trust and reward employees. The fact that our company was able to adapt to remote working with the […]

Can Technology Transform Managers Into Leaders?

Succeeding as a business is all about embracing change. The world around us is in a constant state of flux, with disruptive technologies, social trends and unpredictable events — like pandemics and social unrest — surfacing one after the other. This isn’t new, and although many of us have a tendency to think that some things have always been done a certain way, every part of our lives has undergone multiple changes and transitions. This is doubly true when it comes to business practices and the way companies are organized and managed. A big part of what we conceive of as work today has been influenced by the production lines and factories of the First Industrial Revolution. In that kind of early industry, workers had set tasks that needed to be carried out, managers who coordinated that work on a larger scale and executives who set goals and defined visions that guided the overall trajectory and aims of that industrialized effort. Since then, the types of products created and the ways in which they’re produced have changed radically — but the organizational method (in all but a few pioneering companies) has stayed more or less the same. It doesn’t matter if an enterprise is focused on producing consumer goods, software, or large-scale infrastructure. It’s likely that there will be workers like programmers, engineers, manual laborers, digital […]
